Research programme: Physics of quantum and functional materials
Training topic: Development of new materials with enhanced dielectric and electromechanical response

At the Laboratory for dielectric spectroscopy (Department of condensed matter physics) of the Jožef Stefan Institute, a position for a young researcher (PhD candidate) will be open starting in October 2026. The main focus of the research training will be the development of new materials with enhanced dielectric and/or electromechanical response, such as:

  • ceramic thin films;
  • composites in which 2D conductive materials are dispersed in a polymer matrix;
  • polar systems in the vicinity of critical points.

The young researcher will be involved both in material synthesis and in their structural (X-ray diffraction, electron microscopy) and functional (dielectric spectroscopy, double-beam laser interferometry) characterization. In addition, he will participate in ongoing industrial projects, such as electromechanical characterization of thin piezoelectric films by laser interferometry and the use of dielectric measurements to predict the physical stability of amorphous pharmaceutical ingredients.
